Title R-type 2 Publisher Activision Game Type Shoot-em-up Players 1 or 2 Compatibility ECS HD Installable Patch Available Submission Chris Vella Profiled Reviewer Review The sequel to R-type. This horizontal shooter took all the good points from R-type and improved every aspect of them to make a great shoot'em up. Finally someone did a sequel correctly. This game is basically the same game as R-type where you control a spaceship blasting everything that flys or walks your way. You once again start off with a basic gun but can quickly power it up by shooting enemies and collecting powerups that they release. The special weapons are activated in the same way as in the original by holding down the fire button for a few seconds and the other special weapon can be activated by pressing the spacebar. Besides getting killed by the enemies you can also die by touching some of the scenery. There will be times when you will have to squeeze through a tunnel while shooting enemies so you will need a steady hand. The first thing you notice about this game compared to the original is the very much enhanced graphics and sound. This game looks and sounds much better. The playability was thankfully not changed and this game plays great. The level designs are very good as is the variety of the enemies and the backrounds. The enemies will once again attack you in set patterns so try to learn them and this will make the game a little easier. You will encounter some cool looking bosses and once again they will have to be shot many times in their achilles heel to be killed. In conclusion, this game is one of the best shoot'em ups on the amiga. It's not the best but is in the top 10. The game plays so well and you wonder why all shoot'em ups aren't done as good as this. The great graphics only enhance the game and make this better then the already very good original. If you can find a copy of this game do yourself a favor and buy it. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
